Hey my crafty friends! I recently dropped a video on my favorite supplies of 2024, and I thought I’d do a quick summary here for anyone who might’ve missed it or wants an easy reference. This is all about the supplies I can’t live without, new favorites I’m bringing into 2025, and a few things I thought I’d love… but don’t. Let’s dive in!
Start Where You Are – You Don’t Need Everything!
Before I get into the goodies, I want to say this:
You don’t need a ton of fancy supplies to start junk journaling! Grab some paper, a pen, and a little glue or tape, and you’re good to go. You can even raid your junk mail! This craft can be as simple or complex as you want it to be.
Top Paper Picks
- Neenah Cardstock (110 lb.) – My go-to for printing and creating sturdy journal elements.
- Coffee-Dyed Paper – A staple in my journals. I coffee-dye everything from paper bags to tracing paper.
- Tim Holtz Papers – My absolute faves! I hoard these like they’re going out of style.
- Kirby Teasdale Studio Pad – Perfect for folios and pages with a romantic vibe.
Ephemera Galore
- Fussy Cuts – I love digging through my box of fussy cuts and stickers.
- Words & Phrases – I keep a dedicated word box on hand, packed with quotes, numbers, and fun phrases.
- Tabs – Functional and decorative, I make my own tabs with punches or cut them on my Silhouette.
My Favorite Inks
- Distress Inks (Vintage Photo & Ground Espresso) – Must-haves for adding that grungy, vintage vibe.
- Distress Oxides – I’ve grown to love these more, especially for blending.
- Archival Inks – My go-to for stamping.
Glue It Down!
- Art Glitter Glue + PVA Mix – My favorite glue combo for fast drying and great hold.
- Fabri-Tac – A must for fabrics, lace, and heavier embellishments.
- Elmer’s Spray Adhesive – Perfect for big projects, but it smells terrible, so I only use it outside.
Random Favorites
- Vintage Tape – I make my own vintage tape with alcohol inks.
- Metal Bits – I love using brads, bulb pins, and novelty paper clips in my journals.
- Glossy Accents & UV Resin – Perfect for adding a glossy finish to elements.
- Die Cuts – I use these constantly, especially my favorite black die cuts.
Supplies I Thought I’d Love But…
- Tim Holtz Collage Paper – Beautiful but a little too hard to work with.
- Distress Spray Stains – I like them, but I find myself reaching for regular inks more often.
- Tombow Glue – Takes too long to dry for my impatient self!
Let’s Wrap It Up!
There’s a lot more in the video, including some surprising finds and my must-have hand cream to keep my hands from looking like I’ve been wrangling alligators. 😉 If you’re a beginner or a seasoned junk journaler, there’s something here for everyone.
